Rivers Commissioner of Police, Mr Hosea Karma, said on Monday that the police was not compromised during the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
Karma told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that the police did not favour any party in the state on election day.
‘’ Security role is clearly defined. Our role is to provide level playing ground. We ensured that INEC materials, officials and voters are protected.
‘’ On favouritism, we did not take part in the election and we did not take sides,’’ he said.
Karma also confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area was attacked on election day while preventing thugs from removing election materials.
‘’ In the process, a stone was thrown at him and he got injured. He has been treated and discharged.
‘’ This also shows how the police tried to defend and ensure security of the people on election day.
‘’ The DPO went to ensure that nobody was molested while carrying out their civic responsibility when he was attacked,’’ he said.
Karma said the police did not prevent the APC in the state to deliver their protest letter to INEC because they had the right to do so.
‘’ When APC in the state had their reservation on the election and wanted to present their protest letter to INEC, the police gave them opportunity to do it,’’ he said.
