The Kidnapped Emir of Bukkuyum, Alhaji Mohammed Usman, has reportedly spoken with family members on the phone on Saturday.
A statement on Saturday by the Zamfara state Commissioner of Information, had said that the kidnappers were suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect.
According to a reliable source in the Emirate council, the Emir who was kidnapped on Friday night spoke for several minutes with his family members including his mother, wife and elder brother using one of his phones, which was snatched along with other phones by the suspected gunmen before whisking the Emir away in a waiting Honda Civic car.
The source added that though not yet confirmed, but from all indications the kidnappers on Sunday are demanding for the sum of 10 million naira ransom as condition for his release.
The source added that the kidnappers in a bid to erase their track when they got to the exit part of the town set ablaze the Honda Civic they used in kidnapping the monarch.
He added that about four other phones of people who were studying religious books together with the Emir in the Masjid where the Emir was kidnapped were also snatched.
However, Zamfara state governor, Abdul’Azeez Yari Abubakar, according to the State Commissioner of Commerce, Alhaji Umar Jibo has summoned security agencies in the state to ensure that the kidnapped emir regained his freedom very soon and arrest the suspected kidnappers.
As at the time of filing this report, no official confirmation about the ransom was made by the emirate council, police or the state government.
